Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
Directions

1Blend together the flour, sugar and butter to form a crumbly mixture.

2Reserve 1 cup.

3To the remaining mixture, add ginger, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg; mix well.

4Add egg and then soda mixed with sour milk.

5Beat thoroughly.

6Put half of reserved crumbly mixture on the bottom of 8 or 9-inch square baking pan. Pour batter on top and sprinkle with remaining crumbly mixture. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
