  • 3/4 lb. ground sirloin
  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, peeled, ends removed and chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled, ends removed and minced
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp. basil
  • 1 (22 oz.) can tomato sauce or reduced sodium tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 3 c. uncooked mostaccioli (a tubular shape pasta similar to penne)

Directions

    In a large skillet, cook ground meat over medium heat until well done, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Drain excess fat; set meat aside.

    Over medium heat in same skillet, cook onion in vegetable oil until golden, about 5 minutes.

    Do not let onion turn brown.

    Add garlic, pepper, tomato sauce, tomato paste, basil and oregano.

    Cover and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes.
