  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 1 (3-inch) stick cinnamon
  • 1 whole nutmeg, halved
  • 1 1/2 cups dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice

Directions

    Place first 6 ingredients on a 5-inch square of cheesecloth or coffee filter; tie with string.

    Pour wine and juice into a small saucepan, stirring well; add spice bag. Cover and cook over low heat 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove and discard spice bag. Serve warm.
