Ingredients

  • 250 grams all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tbsp carom seeds (i prefer carom seeds over cumin seeds)
  • 1 tbsp salted butter/ ghee or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1 brown sugar (optional: if you want your namkeens sweet)
  • 1 Rolling pin and board
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 Food processor (optional for making the dough )

Directions

  1. 1
~For making the dough: -Pace the flour in a large mixing bowl.
  2. 2
Add salt, carom seeds and baking powder, mix thoroughly.
  3. 3
    - Now melt the butter/ or ghee and add into the flour, add water(be sure not to add the water too quickly, you don't want your dough to be sticky).
  4. 4
-start kneading and pounding the dough until it softens.
  5. 5
The finished dough should be soft in texture and stretchy so that you'll be able to roll it out perfectly.
  6. 6
Keep it aside and let it rest for 10minutes.
  7. 7
~For design: -roughly divide the dough into small size balls.
  8. 8
-take one ball and roll it with the help of a rolling pin and board.
  9. 9
-cut the flattened dough into the shape and size you want with the help of a sharp knife.
  10. 10
~For frying: Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the namkee till it becomes golden brown and place it in a kitchen paper towel.
  11. 11
Its easier if you fry them in batches.
  12. 12
~For baking: (the healthier version) - Pre-heat oven at 180AC.
