Ingredients

  • 3 sticks Margarine
  • 2 cups Sugar (plus 1/4 Cup For Frosting)
  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 3 teaspoons Anise, Lemon, Or Almond Extract (plus Another 2 Teaspoons For Frosting)
  • 6 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/2 cups Water (for Frosting)
  • 1 box Confectioners Sugar (16 Ounce Box)

Directions

  1. 1
In a large mixing bowl, cream together margarine and sugar. Add the eggs. Mix well. Add 3 teaspoons of the flavoring of your choice. Mix well.
  2. 2
In a separate large bowl, mix or sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the margarine/sugar mixture alternating with sour cream. Mix well. If possible, refrigerate the dough for at least one hour (can be refrigerated overnight). This will make the dough easier to handle. If you do not have time, not to worry, you will just need to flour your hands because it is a sticky dough. Roll the dough into 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  3. 3
Cook 12-14 minutes at 350 degrees. These cookies will not brown. They are a very light cookie. Use a spatula to gently lift one of the cookies. They are done when the bottom is lightly golden brown. Allow to cool on a cooling rack.
  4. 4
To make frosting: Place 1/2 cup of water in a small sauce pan. Add 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool. Place confectioner's sugar in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add the water/sugar mixture mixing well after each small amount added. Repeat until the frosting is to your desired texture. It should be slightly thin - not too thin but not too thick. Add 2 Tablespoons of flavoring (the same one you used in the cookies). Mix well. Frost cookies and add nonpareils or sprinkles if desired. Enjoy!
