  • 1/4 c. plus 1 tsp. melted butter
  • 2 c. rye flour
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk

    Preheat oven to 425°.

    Grease baking sheet.

    Sift flour, soda and salt into large bowl.

    Stir in sugar.

    In medium bowl mix melted butter, buttermilk and egg.

    Make a well in center of flour and pour liquid in.

    Using spatula gradually draw in flour mixture into the liquid.

    Mix well.

    Transfer dough to floured board and knead lightly.

    Divide in half and shape into 2 flat rounds. Should be 1/2-inch thick.

    Bake 20 to 25 minutes.
