- 5 cups thinly sliced apples, cored and peeled
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
- 1 dash salt
- 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
- 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

1Preheat oven to 350°F.

2Toss apples with lemon juice and water in a shallow 2-quart baking dish.

3In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, nutmeg, and salt; mix to blend throughly.

4Cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; mix in walnuts.

5Crumble over apples to cover completely.

6Bake for 40-45 minutes until top is lightly browned.
