Ingredients
- 1/3 c. butter
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 Tbsp. wheat germ
- 1 Tbsp. buttermilk
- 1/3 c. maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp. finely grated lemon rind
- 2 c. chopped walnuts
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1Place butter and maple syrup in small saucepan over low heat. Just when butter melts, remove from heat.

2Stir in vanilla and lemon rind.

3In a medium bowl, combine flour, wheat germ and walnuts.

4Place buttermilk in cup and add maple syrup.

5Stir until dissolved.

6Add all ingredients together; stir until combined. Drop batter by the teaspoon onto lightly oiled baking sheets.

7Bake in preheated 325° oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown.

8Cool on a wire rack.
