Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 c. rolled oats
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 2 1/2 tsp. yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 c. flour (about)

Directions

    Scald milk and pour over oats.

    Add sugars, salt, shortening and molasses.

    Let stand until lukewarm.

    Dissolve yeast in water with 1/2 teaspoon sugar and add to first ingredients.

    Add enough flour to make a smooth, elastic dough.

    Let rise once.

    Put in greased bread pans.

    Bake at 350° to 400° approximately 15 minutes until done, large loaves take a little longer.
