Ingredients

  • 4 c. boiling water
  • 3 c. rolled oats (old-fashioned or quick)
  • 7 1/2 to 8 c. flour
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 1/2 c. molasses (light or dark corn syrup may be used)

Directions

    Pour water over oatmeal in a large bowl; cool.

    Stir in 2 cups of flour and yeast.

    Raise, uncovered, until doubled in bulk. Punch down; work in salt, oil, molasses and enough flour to make a stiff dough.

    Knead, adding extra flour is necessary for about 10 minutes.

    Divide in 3. Form loaves in 3 buttered 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.

    Allow to rise again until doubled.

    Bake in 350° oven for 60 minutes.
