- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 1/4 c. milk
- 1 c. water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 2 c. uncooked oats
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 6 to 6 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1Combine yeast in warm water.

2Combine milk and 1 cup water. Scald milk before using.

3Pour scalded liquid over shortening, sugar and salt.

4Stir until melted.

5When lukewarm, add 2 cups flour and softened yeast.

6Then oats.

7Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.

8Knead until smooth and soft, about 10 minutes.

9Place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening.

10Let rise about 1 hour.

11Punch down, let rest 10 minutes.

12Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pans. Brush with melted shortening.

13Let rise about 45 minutes.

14Bake in 350° oven for 30 minutes.
