Ingredients

  • 4 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 c. molasses (may use some honey)
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 12 to 14 c. flour (may use some whole wheat)

Directions

    Pour 4 cups boiling water over oatmeal, molasses, salt and shortening.

    When lukewarm, dissolve yeast in mixture.

    Mix in enough flour to make a bread dough.

    Knead and put into a bowl to rise.
  5. 5
    Shape into 4 loaves. Let rise again and bake 35 to 45 minutes at 350°.
