- 1/2 c. unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 3/4 c. flour
Directions

1Beat the butter in large bowl until light.

2Slowly add sugar. Beat in molasses, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda and salt. Add flour, 1/4 cup at a time.

3Mix thoroughly.

4Chill 4 hours. Heat oven to 325°.

5Divide cookie dough in half.

6Shape each half into 1 1/2-inch thick rolls.

7Cut dough crosswise with sharp knife into 1/2-inch thick slices.

8Place on lightly buttered baking sheet.

9Bake cookies until golden, about 8 minutes.

10Makes 5 dozen.
