  • 1 c. vegetable shortening (not oil)
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. powdered cloves

Directions

    Mix first four ingredients together.

    Mix remaining ingredients together and add to first mixture.

    If soft, chill. Roll into 1-inch balls and dip in sugar.

    Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.
