Old-Fashioned Vanilla Cake

  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs (unbeaten)
  • 1 1/4 c. milk

Directions

    Sift together the first 3 ingredients.

    Cream the shortening, sugar and vanilla together until fluffy.

    Beat in eggs one at a time.

    Add flour mixture alternately with milk.

    Beat 1/2 minute. Turn into 3 well-greased, lightly floured 9-inch round pans.

    Bake in preheated moderate oven (375°) for 25 minutes or until done. Cool on rack.

    Spread with frosting when cold.
