Old Time Bread Pudding

  • 3 slices stale bread (white, whole wheat, oatmeal or whole grain)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine (room temperature)
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. raisins
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk

    Preheat oven to 325°.

    Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.

    Stack slices and cut in 3/4-inch squares.

    Turn into ovenproof 1-quart casserole dish; sprinkle with sugar, raisins and spice.

    Beat egg with milk.

    Pour over bread mixture.

    Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until pudding is set.

    Serve warm or cold.
