Ingredients
- 2 c. water
- 1 pkg. onion soup mix
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 5 1/2 to 6 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1Bring 2 cups water to boiling in saucepan and add soup mix. Simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, cheese and shortening.

2Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast on warm water in a large bowl.

3Stir to dissolve.

4Stir in onion soup mixture and 2 1/2 cups flour.

5Beat with electric mixer at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally for 2 minutes.

6Mix in remaining flour, a little at a time, with a spoon or hands until dough leaves sides of bowl.

7Turn on floured board.

8Knead until smooth.

9Place in greased bowl and turn dough to grease top. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours.

10Punch down and divide in half.

11Cover for 10 minutes. Shape into 2 loaves.

12Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

13Bake in a 400° oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
