Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 medium sweet onions, sliced
  • 8 oz. fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 c. shredded mixed Monterey Jack and Colby cheese
  • 1 c. cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (5 oz.) can evaporated milk
  • 2 tsp. soy sauce
  • 6 to 8 slices French bread, cut 1/2-inch thick
  • 6 to 8 thin slices Swiss cheese

Directions

    In large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and saute onions and mushrooms until tender.

    Place in 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.

    Combine soup, milk and soy sauce and pour over cheese.

    Place bread on top and top with slices of Swiss cheese.

    Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

    Bake, loosely covered, at 375° for 30 minutes.

    Uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
