  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1 A1/2 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 A1/2 t. poppy seeds
  • 1 medium onion, sliced paper thin
  • A1/2 T. dry mustard
  • A1/2 t. salt
  • 8 oz. Swiss cheese, baby Swiss preferred

Directions

    Score bread diagonally, almost to bottom, in a criss-cross pattern. SautA onion in butter until transparent, being careful not to burn. Add salt, poppy seeds and mustard and cook another 3 minutes. Stuff 1 x 1 inch slice of cheese (you can use as many as will fit) into bread sections. Drizzle onion mixture over top. Wrap in foil and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 20 minutes. Unwrap and bake and additional 5 to 10 minutes to crisp. To be served as a apull-aparta appetizer.
