Open-Faced Steak And Onion Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 None large red onion, peeled and sliced into thin rings
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 x 6 oz thin-cut rump or sirloin steak
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1 None medium tomato, sliced
  • None Handful watercress
  • 1/2 loaf ciabatta, lightly toasted

Directions

    Heat 1 tbsp oil in a small frying pan; fry onion for 10 mins, stirring occasionally, until golden and soft. Add the sugar; cook, stirring, for a further 2 mins until the sugar has dissolved and is slightly syrupy. Remove the onions and juices from the pan; keep warm.

    Heat the remaining oil in the pan. Season the steak and cook over a high heat for 1-2 mins each side, or according to taste.

    Mix the mayonnaise and mustard. Layer the tomato, watercress and onions on the toasted ciabatta. Place the steak on top; spoon over the mustard mayonnaise. Serve immediately.
