- 1/2 c. orange juice
- 3/4 c. sugar, divided
- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 tsp. grated orange peel
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. milk
- melted butter
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions

1In a saucepan, combine orange juice, 1/2 cup sugar, butter and orange peel.

2Cook and stir over medium heat for 2 minutes. Divide among 12 muffin cups; set aside.

3In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.

4Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

5With a fork, stir in milk until mixture forms a ball.

6On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 1 minute.

7Roll into a 9-inch square, about 1/2-inch thick.

8Brush with melted butter.

9Combine the cinnamon and remaining sugar; sprinkle over batter.

10Roll up.

11Cut into 12 slices, about 3/4 inch thick.

12Place slices, cut side down, over orange mixture in muffin cups.

13Bake at 450° for 12 to 16 minutes.

14Cool for 2 to 3 minutes; remove from pan.
