  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. nut meats
  • 1 pkg. dates
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • grated orange rind
  • 2 large oranges
  • 1 c. sugar

    Mix dry ingredients.

    Mix Crisco, 1 cup sugar and eggs.

    Add soda to buttermilk; stir until foaming.

    Add the buttermilk with the dry ingredients to the Crisco mix.

    Add dates, orange rind and nuts.

    Bake in greased and floured pan in moderate oven (375°) for 45 to 50 minutes.
