Orange Date Cake

   pour boiling water over dates and rind in bowl.

   let stand.

   Cream sugar,shortening, and egg yolks thoroughly.

   Stir dry ingredients together.

   Mix juice and water together.

   Add dry ingredients alternately with juice and water mixture.

   Stir date mixture and blend into batter.

   Beat egg whites until stiff.

   Fold into batter.

    Spread into lightly greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.

    Bake at 350 for 50 to 55 minutes.

    Cool in pan.
