Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oranges
- 1 c. nuts, chopped
- 1 1/2 c. raisins
- 3 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Squeeze juice from oranges and stir in 3/4 cup sugar.

2Remove loose fibers from orange peel and grind with nuts and raisins through medium grinder.

3Sift flour, salt and soda together.

4Cream shortening and remaining 1 1/2 cups sugar until fluffy.

5Beat in eggs, one at a time.

6Add vanilla to buttermilk and stir in alternately with dry ingredients.

7Bake at about 325° for half hour and then reduce heat slightly for another half hour.

8Immediately upon removing from oven, dip orange juice and sugar over tops of cakes and cool in pans.

9Makes 2 loaves.
