- 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons ( 1/2 stick) unsalted butter, chilled
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup heavy or whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons grated orange zest
Directions

1Preheat the oven to 425F.

2Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.

3Using a pastry blender or two knives, work in the butter until it resembles coarse meal.

4Mix in the eggs one at a time, and then the cream and orange zest.

5Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 2 minutes.

6Roll out the dough until it is 3/4 inch thick.

7Cut out the scones using a 3-inch round cookie cutter.

8Place them on a baking sheet and bake in the center of the oven until lightly golden and crusty, 15 to 20 minutes.

9Remove the scones from the oven and allow them to cool.

10You can prepare these 1 to 2 days ahead.

11Keep them wrapped in plastic wrap.
