Orange Slice Cake

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 lb. candy orange slices, cut in small pieces
  • 1/2 lb. dates, cut in pieces
  • 1 (4 oz.) can coconut
  • 2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. orange rind, grated

Directions

    Combine butter and sugar; stir in eggs.

    Add soda to buttermilk and add alternately with flour.

    Add orange slices, coconut, dates, nuts and orange rind.

    Turn into 10-inch greased tube pan.

    Bake 2 hours in 300° oven.

    Allow to cool in pan overnight, setting on a cooling rack.

    This 5-pound cake should be mixed by hand as beaters will make it light and fruit will go to the bottom.
