  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound gumdrops large -- Orange slices
  • 14 ounces dates diced
  • 2 cups nuts chopped
  • 1 cup coconut flaked
  • 4 cups flour unsifted
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar unsifted

    In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until well blended; add eggs and mix well. Add soda to buttermilk in a small bowl; stir into first mixture.

    Add flour, mix well and add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into a prepared 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake 2 hours at 300 degrees F. Place a pan of water in oven until last 45 minutes to keep cake moist. When cake comes out of oven, mix orange juice and powdered sugar in a small bowl. While cake is hot, pour orange juice & powdered sugar mixture over cake and let stand overnight to cool and set. RF4RP
