Oven-Made Caramel Corn

- 5 qt. popped corn
- 1 c. butter or margarine (2 sticks)
- 2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. light corn syrup
Directions

1Spread freshly popped corn in a large, shallow sheet pan.

2Put corn in a low heat oven (250°) to keep warm and crisp.

3Combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and salt in a 2 quart heavy saucepan.

4Place on medium heat; stir until sugar dissolves. Continue to boil to the firm ball stage (248° thermometer), about 5 minutes.

5Remove from heat and add baking soda.

6Stir well. Add to corn, mixing well.

7Return to oven (250°) for 45 to 50 minutes. Stir every 15 minutes.
