Ingredients

  • 1 1/2-2 lbs. stew meat (trimmed of all visible fat)
  • 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
  • 3-4 carrots, pared and sliced
  • 3-4 ribs celery, sliced
  • 4-5 potatoes, pared and chunked
  • 1 clove garlic, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp. minute tapioca
  • 1 (15 oz.) can thick and chunky tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. water

Directions

    Layer ingredients in a roaster, casserole dish or baking pan in order listed.

    DO NOT MIX.

    Cover tightly and bake at 250° for 5 hours.

    DO NOT OPEN oven during baking time.

    If desired, remove cover and continue baking 5-10 minutes at 400°-450° to thicken and lightly brown surface vegetables.
