  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 c. finely chopped, peeled apples
  • 1/2 c. pecans
  • Caramel Sauce

Directions

    Cream the sugar, shortening and eggs in mixer bowl for 1 minute. Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt together. Add to creamed mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon.

    Add water, vanilla, apples and pecans, stirring to mix. Spoon into greased 9 x 13-inch cake pan. Bake at 350° for 45

    to 50 minutes or until cake tests done.

    Cut into squares. Spoon warm Caramel Sauce over each serving.
