- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. mace or nutmeg
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 whole egg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 1/2 c. sifted flour
- fruit preserves
- fat for deep frying
Directions

1Scald milk and allow to cool to lukewarm.

2Sprinkle in yeast. Cream butter and sugar mixed with mace or nutmeg until fluffy. Add egg yolks and whole egg, salt and vanilla.

3Stir in flour and milk, gradually beating until well blended.

4Cover.

5Let rise in warm place until double in bulk, about 1 1/2 hours.

6Punch down. Knead, adding more flour, if too soft to handle.

7Cover.

8Let rise again until double.
