  • 3 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nutmeats

Directions

    Put the sugar and milk into a saucepan and cook to the softball stage or 238°.

    Remove from the fire.

    Add butter and vanilla and cool without stirring.
  4. 4
    When it is lukewarm, beat until it is creamy.

    Stir in the broken nutmeats.

    Hickory nuts, walnuts or pecans are especially nice.

    Pour into a buttered pan and, when it hardens, mark into squares.
