Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz.) can Pastene ground, peeled tomatoes
  • 1 (18 oz.) can Contadina tomato paste
  • 12 oz. water
  • 1 c. red cooking wine
  • 3/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • salt to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 green pepper

Directions

    Chop onion, garlic and pepper into small pieces.

    Add olive oil into large saucepan (medium heat).

    Lightly brown the onion, garlic and pepper in the olive oil.

    Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste and water.

    Heat on medium until paste is combined with tomatoes and water.

    Add remaining ingredients.

    Reduce heat to low.

    Let simmer lightly for six hours.

    If adding meatballs, do so after 2 hours.
