  • 1 stick margarine
  • about 8 firm peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. plain flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

    Grease 10-inch casserole; line with peaches.

    Cream margarine and 1/2 cup sugar.

    Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and vanilla.

    Spoon over peaches.

    Mix remaining 1 cup sugar with water; bring to boil and stir until sugar completely dissolves.

    Pour over batter. Bake at 350° for about 1 hour or until top browns.
