- 2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 6 Tbsp. butter
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- 1 tsp. grated orange peel
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 25 maraschino cherries, halved and well drained
Directions

1Combine flour and baking powder.

2In a large mixer bowl, beat butter and shortening until butter is softened.

3Add sugar and beat until fluffy.

4Add egg, milk, orange peel and vanilla and beat well.

5Add flour mixture and beat until well mixed.

6Cover and chill about 30 minutes or until easy to handle.

7Shape into two 8-inch rolls.

8Wrap and chill for several hours or overnight.

9Cut into 1/4-inch slices.

10Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

11Place a cherry on the bottom half of each slice for bell clapper.

12Fold in sides of slice, overlapping at top and slightly covering cherry. Pinch in sides to resemble bell shape.

13Bake at 350° for 12 to 14 minutes.
