  • 1 teaspoon peanut oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup soybean sauce (not soy sauce; available at Asian supermarkets)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 10 to 15 dry-roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped

    Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat.

    Add the garlic and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly browned.

    Reduce the heat to low and stir in the soybean sauce, tomato paste, fish sauce, and chili paste.

    In a small bowl, combine the peanut butter, sugar, and water.
