  • 1 cup pitted whole dates, chopped
  • 1 medium (3/4 cup) pear, chopped
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold Land O Lakes Butter
  • 1 Land O Lakes Egg
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice

    Combine all filling ingredients except pecans in 1-quart saucepan.

    Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 2-3 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil.

    Boil 1 minute.

    Remove from heat.

    Stir in pecans.

    Heat oven to 375F.

    Combine flour, sugar and baking powder in large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture.

    Press remaining crumb mixture on bottom of ungreased 8-inch square baking pan.

    Spread filling to within 1/4 inch of edge.

    Crumble reserved crumb mixture over filling.

    Bake 28-32 minutes or until golden brown.
