- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 pounds round steak, trimmed of fat and cut in strips
- 1 cup water
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 medium green bell peppers, cut into strips
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2-3 teaspoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges
Directions

1Heat the oil in a large, heavy pot.

2Add the meat and brown for 5 minutes.

3Stir in the water, onion, garlic salt, and ginger.

4Bring to a boil, cover, reduce the heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.

5After 10 minutes, add the peppers.

6Stir together the soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch.

7Pour this into the pot and stir until the liquid thickens.

8Place tomato wedges on top of the meat and bring to a boil.

9Simmer for 5 minutes longer.

10Serve over rice.
