  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds round steak, trimmed of fat and cut in strips
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 medium green bell peppers, cut into strips
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2-3 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges

    Heat the oil in a large, heavy pot.

    Add the meat and brown for 5 minutes.

    Stir in the water, onion, garlic salt, and ginger.

    Bring to a boil, cover, reduce the heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.

    After 10 minutes, add the peppers.

    Stir together the soy sauce, sugar, and cornstarch.
