- 2 2/3 c. flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/4 c. milk
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 egg whites
- 1/2 c. finely ground peppermint stick candy
Directions

1Sift flour and measure.

2Sift again with baking powder and salt.

3Cream shortening.

4Continue creaming, gradually adding 4/5 cup of sugar and 3 tablespoons milk.

5Add egg yolk and vanilla to remaining milk.

6Add sifted dry ingredients with milk to cream mixture.

7Beat egg whites stiff, but not dry.

8Beat in remaining sugar.

9Fold into cake batter.

10Pour into 2 (9-inch) layer pans with wax paper in bottom.

11Sprinkle with the finely ground peppermint candy.

12Bake in hot oven (375°) for 25 minutes.

13Ice it in pink and sprinkle remaining ground peppermint candy over top and sides of cake.
