- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 yeast cakes
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Pour milk over shortening and sugar.

3Add 1/2 of the flour and mix, then add remaining flour and yeast.

4Mix thoroughly.

5Let stand for 15 to 20 minutes, then use as much of the dough as needed.

6Store remaining dough in refrigerator.

7Bake at 375° until brown.
