  • 3 qt. pickling onions
  • 2/3 c. salt
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. yellow mustard seed
  • 2 Tbsp. prepared horseradish
  • 1 1/2 qt. distilled white vinegar
  • dried hot peppers
  • bay leaf

Directions

    Place onions in large saucepan; cover with water.

    Bring to boiling and simmer 2 minutes; drain.

    Plunge into cold water and peel.

    Put onions in large bowl; sprinkle with salt.

    Cover with cold water.

    Let stand for 12 to 18 hours; drain and rinse well.
