- 8 c. dry pinto beans, washed
- 1 smoked ham hock
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/2 c. molasses or honey
- 2 Tbsp. chile piquin
- 3 Tbsp. garlic powder or fresh minced
- salt to taste
- enough water to cover beans, 3 or 4 inches
Directions

1Sort and wash beans and place them in a large pot and cover them with water.

2At this point you can let them soak overnight or cook them overnight.

3I prefer the latter.

4Add all the other ingredients, cover pot and bring to a boil.

5Then reduce heat and simmer on low heat all night or day.

6Check the water and stir occasionally.
