- 1 pkg. active dry yeast or 1 cake yeast
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 c. scalded milk
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 egg
Directions

1Soften yeast in warm water or cake yeast in lukewarm water. Add milk, sugar, shortening and salt in a large bowl.

2Cool until lukewarm.

3Add 1 cup flour; beat well.

4Beat in yeast and egg. Gradually add remaining flour to form soft dough, beating well. Cover; let stand in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

5Turn out on floured surface; shape as desired.
