- 6 tablespoons shortening
- 12 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 12 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 12 cup chopped dates
- 14 cup walnuts
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar; add whole egg, beat well; add dates, nuts and vanilla; mix well.

2Add flour and baking powder which have been sifted together.

3Add milk gradually as the mixture must be stiff so that the rocks will hold their shape.

4Drop by teaspoon onto parchment-lined baking sheet.

5Bake at 350F for 15 minutes.
