Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted Pillsbury's Best all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. Land O Lakes butter with 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. Burnett's pure vanilla

Directions

    Sift the first 4 ingredients together.

    Melt butter with buttermilk or sour milk.

    Cool to room temperature.

    Combine brown sugar, eggs and vanilla in mixing bowl.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

    (With electric mixer, use a low speed.)

    Turn into a 13 x 9-inch pan, greased and floured on bottom.

    Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes until cake springs back when touched lightly in center.

    Spread with topping.

    Broil, watching carefully, until bubbly and golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes.
