- 5 or more medium-sized beets
- 2 sour apples
- 1 tsp (5 ml). bacon fat
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) to 3 tbsp (45 ml). sour cream
- 1-1/2 tbsp (20 ml). flour
- salt and pepper to taste
- lemon juice to taste
- sugar to taste
Directions

1Peel beets and apples and grate coarsely, reserving all the juices.

2Melt bacon fat.

3Add grated beets and apples and their juices.

4Season with salt and pepper, and add lemon juice and sugar to taste.

5Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.

6Remove cover and reduce liquid.

7Combine flour with sour cream then add and let bubble up.

8Simmer a few more minutes.
