  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco or 1 stick margarine
  • 3 c. cake flour or plain
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 8 eggs (beat one at a time)
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice or flavoring

    Cream sugar, butter and Crisco until creamy.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

    Add flour with baking powder.

    Mix well but not overbeat.

    Pour into a tube pan which has been well-greased and floured.

    Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.
