Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 5 or 6 eggs
  • 3 c. granulated sugar
  • 3/4 to 1 c. milk
  • 3 c. unsifted Swans Down cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sherry, almond or lemon extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together 3 times.

    Cream butter, Crisco and sugar with electric mixer.

    Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each one.

    Then, by hand, add one cup of flour mixture to creamed mixture and follow with small amount of milk.

    Repeat and finish with adding flour.

    Put in 10-inch greased and floured tube pan.

    Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 20 to 25 minutes.

    Test for doneness with a straw.
