  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/3 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. lemon
  • 1/4 tsp. almond or 2 Tbsp. lemon (which I prefer)

Directions

    Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each.

    Combine dry ingredients and milk alternately to creamed butter mixture.

    Add flavoring; mix.

    Preheat oven to 350°; cook for 10 minutes, then reduce to 325° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
