  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. margarine, softened
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • colored sugar

Directions

    Mix sugar, margarine, milk, vanilla, almond extract and egg. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt.

    Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

    Heat oven to 375°.

    Divide dough into 4 square parts.

    Divide one part into 12 equal pieces (keep remaining dough refrigerated).

    Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of colored sugar on board.

    Roll each piece of dough on sugared board into pencil like strips and twist into pretzel shape.

    Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

    Repeat with remaining dough.

    Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
