- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. margarine, softened
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. almond extract
- 1 egg
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- colored sugar
Directions

1Mix sugar, margarine, milk, vanilla, almond extract and egg. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt.

2Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

3Heat oven to 375°.

4Divide dough into 4 square parts.

5Divide one part into 12 equal pieces (keep remaining dough refrigerated).

6Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of colored sugar on board.

7Roll each piece of dough on sugared board into pencil like strips and twist into pretzel shape.

8Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

9Repeat with remaining dough.

10Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.

11Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
